About Huawei Hong Kong Research Center (HKRC)
Established in 2018, HKRC is a fast-growing international research center that focuses on chipsets, software engineering, AI and theoretical research. For a short span of five years, HKRC saw its staff increase from over 100 members in 2019 to more than 600 in 2024. They come from more than 23 countries and regions, with 52% being PhD holders.
Having invested over USD10 million on technology cooperation each year, HKRC places great emphasis on R&D and has a successful track record in this regard. Equipped with well-furnished labs and offices, the research center hosts free tech talks and recreational activities on a regular basis.
Going forward, Huawei aims to capitalize on the unique strengths of Hong Kong, bring together high-end talents worldwide, and tap into quality resources from local universities to create a world-class research hub for technology innovation.
About System Theory Research Group of Theory Laboratory
The System Theory Research group focuses on fundamental and applied research in diverse areas related to LLM/AI systems, storage and computing systems, networked systems, cloud networking and mobile systems. We build proof-of-concept prototypes and systems, collaborate with academia, and transfer cutting-edge technologies to Huawei’s product groups. Our group has published in top academic conferences including ACM SIGCOMM, SOSP, SIGKDD, SIGMOD, USENIX NSDI, VLDB, ISIT, WSC and HPCA, and our research systems have made massive impact on several Huawei Product Line groups, including Huawei Computing Product Line, Data Storage Product Line, Wireless Product Line, Data Communication Product Line, Cloud and Consumer Business Group.
Our group is seeking candidates with stellar research and system building skills and the desire to do game-changing research that pushes technological boundaries. Candidates with strong backgrounds and interest and experience in LLM/AI, computer science, system architecture, electrical engineering and related areas, are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
• Identify business opportunities and contribute to the entire lifecycle from idea generation to production.
• Define and lead an ambitious research agenda.
• Formulate and execute novel research projects, author patents and research papers and transfer technologies to Huawei Product Line.
• Communicate efficiently and collaborate to build new ideas with team members and other researchers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Currently have or in the process of obtaining a PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical fields, from a top-tier institution. Outstanding candidates with an MPhil degree are also welcome to submit.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Have background of AI/ML related areas, especially in transformer-based models training, fine-tuning and inferencing.
• Solid programming skills, proficient in at least one of Python/C.
• Excellent critical thinking and communication skills.
• Strong teamwork spirit, high self-motivation, positive working attitude, ability to work under pressure.
• Publication record in prestigious peer-reviewed conferences and journals, such as AAAI, IJCAI, ICRL, ICML, NeurIPS, SIGCOMM, SIGMOD, VLDB, NSDI, OSDI, and others.
